Is there an issue with fitness??
|
I have said since the start of the season that we have not looked fit enough and wasted pre season.
I have just read in the Mail that this season the team have covered 756km whilst after the same number of games last season they had covered 791km.
A lack of fitness, players being lazy or something else?

Clearly not working hard enough and thats not down to lack of confidence because they started the season that way. Too much standing around and jogging back, no one is busting a gut, especially defensively. Also lack of motivation never seem fired up. Really looking for us to step up at the weekend but it won't be easy we have been so poor

The problem is definitely more in their heads than their bodies.

I do think this is a part of it - we don't seem sharp or focussed at all
But I think we also lack a proper loud mouth leader in defence - whoever plays, we don't really seem to have anyone to organise the back line into something resembling a decent shape

Maybe some of them are just putting less of a shift in as they don't care enough?
Their body language seems worse to me than their fitness.

The pitch is 4.42 metres longer, but not wider.

This is a time when we could do with an inspirational Bonzo type figure bossing our team and cajoling more effort from players. Sadly there does not seem to be many, if any, of that ilk.

I don't think fitness is an issue. These are professional athletes with the best equipment, and fitness staff monitoring them. Our pre season schedule was also absolutely fine.
Whether the players are working hard enough is another question.

Agree with Stewie. I said that would have been the warm up in my day.
Still there must be a reason for covering less ground, especially seeing as it is a bigger pitch to cover.

Personally, I think the greatest issue with a team on a bad run is in their heads.
An extreme version was seen in the England v Iceland game. They were clearly so terrified at the prospect of losing, that they couldn't even do basic things like trapping the ball and passing. I think our lot are also scared of losing or failing. Creates mistakes.
All in their heads.

I think there was, however Bilic has had a further two weeks to sort it.

There is an issue with EVERYTHING when a team is on a bad run.
